Are you excited about youth work and would you like to exchange ideas about it with your fellow students from Hungary, Belgium-Flanders, and Estonia?
Do you want to learn more about European youth work?
Do you believe that European cooperation can support local challenges in youth work?
Do you want to dive into a truly international, inspirational and also fun international week?

If the answer is YES, join us in ‘Cross The Line’!

Why?

‘Cross the Line’ wants to build bridges between higher education and youth work and also between formal and non-formal ways of learning.  ‘Cross The Line’ wants to create a space for sharing, reflection, debate and dialogue regarding value-based youth work from local realities to European level and will do this by:

  • Identifying common dilemmas and obstacles in value-based youth work and critically examining the role of youth workers in addressing them.
  • Strengthening the development of professional identity by exploring the diverse contexts of participants.
  • Exploring how EU programmes, such as Erasmus+ Youth and the European Solidarity Corps, can serve as tools to empower young people to address various challenges through (international) cooperation.

How?

No lectures on the programme, but a dynamic learner-centred approach combining active non-formal learning methods, experiential learning, group work, visits to local youth work practice, discussions, open space and reflection.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for students who:

  • are passionate about youth work,
  • have some experience in youth work (e.g. through an internship, voluntary youth work) and understand the importance of relationships with young people engaged in youth work activities,
  • can explain in general what youth work is about in your country and what challenges it brings professionally,
  • want to grow professionally by reflecting upon the challenges, the boundaries and the professional role of youth work in an international environment,
  • are committed to the whole course actively, including preparation and follow-up,
  • understand and are able to work in English.

If you have questions concerning how this learning experience may be recognised as part of your studies, please contact the lecturers from whom you have received the invitation.

In each country, we have identified one or more universities of applied sciences as our partner:

  • Belgium (FL): Erasmus Brussels University of Applied Sciences and Arts and Artevelde University of Applied Sciences;
  • Estonia: Tartu University Narva College, Tartu University Viljandi Cultural Academy, Tallinn University;
  • Hungary: University of Pécs and ELTE University.

Preparation process

In preparation for the residential activity, the preparatory phase will begin in mid-September and run until mid-November. During this period, you will follow a self-paced online blended course exploring topics such as value-based learning, professional identity, and the European dimension of youth work. By applying to this course, you commit to participating in the following online and residential activities.

The online preparation consists of:

  • Minimum 6 hours -  maximum 9 hours.
  • Self-paced learning modules with some online tasks  (1 hour of online learning / each module);
  • Two mandatory online onboarding sessions:

    • Onboarding 2 (90 min): 13th November 09:30-11:00 (CET)

In addition, a national-level meeting with your colleagues and the National Agency will most likely be scheduled to further prepare for the residential activity.
